Frequently Asked Questions

What is mineral makeup?
True mineral makeup consists of minerals extracted from the earth and then expertly milled to a very fine powder. Mainstream cosmetics are either mineral oil or petroleum-based, neither are natural and both contain toxins and chemical substances that enter your body. You won't find any of these ingredients in Amina Cosmetics™, our products offer purity and peace of mind for the health conscious. When comparing mineral make-up lines, always check for synthetic ingredients such as alcohol, artificial fragrance, mineral oil, talc, petroleum or parabens - you won't find these harmful ingredients  in Amina Cosmetics™. All of our products are made from natural ingredients that are chemical-free. Amina Cosmetics™ mineral make-up, is formulated in a base of natural minerals with essential anti-aging vitamins and herbal extracts that care for your skin. Our products do not contain petrochemicals, parabens or any synthetic ingredients. Products are made in Australia, from Non-GMO produce, where ever possible we choose Certified Organic and Bio-dynamic ingredients.

Is mineral make-up good for sensitive skin?
Yes, minerals are the natural choice to calm and soothe, troubled or irritated skin. Dermatologists highly recommend it. Amina Cosmetics™ is ideal to use after treatments to hide imperfections and camouflage redness or uneven skin tone.

What makes mineral make-up superior to traditional cosmetic lines?
Mineral make-up is highly recommended by Dermatologists for it's breath ability and is the  popular choice for patients with skin traumatised by acne, rosacea, or skin treatments such as laser treatments, chemical peels, or cosmetic surgery. Amina Cosmetics™ are developed in conjunction with Dermatologists, our products contain the healthiest ingredients possible.

How are Amina Cosmetics manufactured?
To create the perfect product our manufacturing and formulation revolves around the combined skills of a Herbalist, an Aromatherapist, Formulation Chemists, Production and Documentation Chemists, the result is a carefully crafted and expertly manufactured product of the highest quality and performance, that are proudly made in Australia.

We use only the purest most premium grade minerals to achieve superior results and we invite you to compare our product to our competitors. You will find all Ingredients listed on our website and you can see for your self that our cosmetics are truly chemical-free. The simplest way to determine if a product is natural is to read the label, if you cannot recognise an ingredient then it is most likely to be a synthetic ingredient. We think you'll find our quality superior to any other mineral cosmetic line.

How are Amina Cosmetics preserved?
Amina Cosmetics™ are naturally preserved using vitamins, minerals and antioxidants combined with pure Essential Oils that are fortified in a botanic base of ingredients developed for those that are allergic or sensitive to traditional cosmetics. All of our products contain natural preservatives to minimise the growth of harmful bacteria and to maintain product integrity. Any product containing liquids such as creams, lotions, lip gloss, foundation or mascara for example, can foster bacterial or microbial growth. In order to protect your health and inhibit the growth of microbes and bacteria, we've chosen preservatives derived from plants, which are often used in baby care and food products. Do not purchase products that are preservative free, you could be exposing yourself to harmful bacteria that can lead to serious infections.

Do Amina Cosmetics have a shorter shelf life being natural?
No. The preservative system that we use enables our products to last 18 to 24 months (unopened), this is relatively the same for all cosmetic products. Our natural products do not have a shorter shelf life or expiration date than traditional products, but it makes sense to use the same common sense with any product, just like food, if it smells rancid, looks discolored, or has mold, throw it away - you should not keep cosmetics past their expiration date.

Aside from using natural preservatives we use airless dispensing bottles (natural products can oxidize and go rancid when exposed to air) and supply spatulas for products stored in jars to minimise contamination, extending the product shelf life. You can help by storing products away from direct sunlight and UV rays, oxygen, heat and moisture, and washing your hands before use will minimise bacteria from your fingers which can be detrimental to your products stability.

How do you formulate Amina Cosmetics?
All of the ingredients that are used to formulate Amina Cosmetics™ are chosen for their ability to help repair, protect and improve the appearance of the skin, these ingredients are well known for their ability to improve skin elasticity, firmness, lustre and texture. To achieve SPF solar protection against the suns damaging ultra-violet rays, we add such ingredients as kaolin clay, mica and zinc oxide.

How do you source ingredients?
We source our ingredients from nature, we always select pure powdered herbal extracts and not cheap synthetic varieties. We use potent natural ingredients well known for their anti-ageing benefits to keep you looking your very best. These herbal extracts are powerful anti-oxidants that work by destroying free-radicals (oxygen molecules that break down collagen) which in turn causes wrinkles and sagging. Our products are formulated rich in potent herbal extracts, vitamins and minerals to help fight the signs of ageing and to help repair and protect the skin from external factors.

How does Amina Cosmetics maintain quality control?
Products are manufactured and filled under a controlled environment. Specific tests are carried out on all raw materials, testing for heavy metal as well as specific gravity tests, refractive index tests, saponification value tests, iodine value tests, acid value tests and visual and smell tests for translucency, colour, viscosity, solubility and aroma. Combining these tests ensures that the physical and chemical parameters of the raw materials are thoroughly examined. The results from these tests guarantee that our customers obtain the greatest level of confidence from Amina Cosmetics™ and receive only the highest quality products.

How does mineral make-up work to achieve that healthy 'glow' that it gives your skin?
Mineral make-up works by reflecting light like millions of tiny diamond like mirrors to hide fine lines and skin discolourations. The more you 'buff' the product with the powder brush the more your skin will glow achieving a silk-velvet quality, everyone will comment on how well you are looking! The Kabuki Face Brush is essential for applying Mineral Foundation Powder, it is the only brush that distributes the minerals evenly, giving you that airbrushed glowing look that everyone talks about.

What kind of starch is in your products, and why is it used?
We use Arrowroot Powder (Tapioca) and Corn Starch (zea mays), as healthy alternatives to talc. They  provide a beautiful Matt finish, absorb excess oil, and are ideal for eliminating shine throughout the day.

Why is talc bad for my skin?
Talc is a cheap filler and can block pores. It is very drying to your skin and can cause irritation. Our products do not contain talc, nor any other unnecessary fillers.

Some Amina Cosmetics products contain Tocopheryl Acetate, is this ingredient synthetic?
No. Tocopheryl Acetate is a Vitamin also known as Vitamin E Oil or Vitamin E acetate. We use the natural Vitamin E Oil and not the synthetic substitute.

Does Amina Cosmetics use artificial fragrance?
No. We only use Certified Organic Essential Oils that work to benefit the user spiritually, physically and aesthetically.

Do your products have a Matt finish?
Yes. Our products are glitter free with a superior Matte or Semi-Matte finish. Glitter can itch or even cause unsightly breakouts,  you'll notice that some other mineral cosmetics may have an undesirable "glittery" look, that's because their milling process or ingredient combination leaves a rough finish. Amina Cosmetics™ has a silky smooth finish with a more refined 'glow' rather than a sparkly 'glitter', and best of all it's feather-weight quality feels barely there.
